His works including his famoue piece 'The great Wave of Kanagawa' with the view of Mt Fuji in the Distance, his other works including 'Dragon Of Smoke Escaping from Mt Fuji', which is my favourite piece of work he had done and the great wave comes second as my favourite piece. I really like the carp jumping up the cascade waterfall the scales on the carp looks like actuall scales but they were made by wood cutting.
Hokusai means 'North Studio' because of his artistic skills he is a buddist so looking at the North Star as associated as the diety Myoken (妙見菩薩), Mt Fuji has been traditionally linked with eternal life This belief can be traced to Tale of the Banboo Cutter where a goddess deposits the elixir of life on the peak.
I like Hokusai's work it is quirky and lively as you can see the picture come alive as you look at it and the great wave is popular today as it was hin Hokusai's era. I cvan feel that the fishermen in this piece frightend of the big wave but they are brave risking their lives for feeding their family.
